The safety car following the accident involving Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica caused a lot of confusion on the track. But the confusion was even greater afterwards where Jarno Trulli lost his podium position after passing Lewis Hamilton during the yellow flag. Hamilton first passed Trulli, who had went off the track, but then slowed down to let Trulli pass him. Trulli was handed a 25 second penalty, which was quite severe as the race ended behind the safety car with the whole field bunched together.

Jarno Trulli:
“I can’t say how disappointed I am to finish third but have the result questioned,” he said. “When the safety car came out towards the end of the race Lewis passed me but soon after he suddenly slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road. I thought he had a problem so I overtook him as there was nothing else I could do.”
Trulli loses podium for safety car infringement

But then earlier today the stewards decided to re-investigate the incident.

And the Stewards decision is now that Lewis Hamilton and McLaren have been disqualified. It appears that Hamilton in the hearing after the race told the Stewards that he had not been instructed by the team to let Trulli by. The problem is he had already told the media that McLaren had instructed him to let Trulli pass and furthermore the Stewards now have access to some pretty vital evidence; the radio communications.

At the FIA website it is now possible to listen to both the interview Lewis Hamilton gave to the media as well as the actual radio transmission between Lewis Hamilton and the team.

Edit:
Here are the radio communications between Jarno Trulli and his crew during the incident.

Honda Motor Company and Ross Brawn has confirmed this morning that they have reached an agreement for the Honda Racing F1 Team. The ownership of the team has been passed to Ross Brawn and the Brawn GP Formula One Team has now been born.

The new team has made an agreement with Mercedes-Benz who will supply the team with their FO108W engines which will now power three teams (McLaren, Force India and Brawn GP).

The driver line-up was also confirmed and Brawn GP will rely on the extremely experienced team of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. Rubens Barrichello made his Grand Prix debut for Jordan in1993 while Jenson made his debut for Williams in the year 2000, after only two years of single seater racing.

It is now a race against time as there are only 20 days left until the new Brawn GP cars will take the first free practice of the 2009 season in Melbourne, Australia.

Crash.net are reporting that Ferrari’s new KERS system may not be ready for the opening race at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. Teams like BMW Sauber and McLaren have been testing their KERS systems during recent testing but Ferrari has been a bit behind on the new system.

The Kinetic Energy Recovery System will be used to boost the car’s performance by recovering the normally wasted kinetic energy generated by the car’s braking process. This energy will the be stored using either a flywheel or a battery and then be made available to the driver via a “boost button” on the steering wheel. The power gain will be regulated to approximately 80 horsepower.

“We’re working a lot on the energy recovery system,” the Ferrari technicians said. “We’re a bit behind on our schedule, but our goal is to be ready with a working KERS for the first race, which will be held in Australia. Meanwhile we’re also appraising the car without KERS.

Santander is currently a sponsor with the McLaren team and the bank’s boss Emilio Botin has made no secret that he wishes to reunite the brand with Fernando Alonso. Santander joined with McLaren when Alonso signed for them in 2007.

“Alonso is the best driver in the world and we would like to work with him”

Both Kimi Räikkönen and Felipe Massa have contracts for Ferrari in 2010, but you never know in Formula 1.
