The new car brings back the original yellow of Renault and also brings a very blocky nose!

“We began our preparations for the R29 project early and I am proud of what the team has achieved,” explained Briatore. “There are lots of new things to deal with this year, which could shake things up, but we intend to continue fighting at the front. We will now concentrate on our final preparations for the start of the season so that we can arrive in Australia hopefully fighting for the podium.”

After the photo session the car hit the track with Nelsinho Piquet behind the wheel.

Renault presented Romain Grosjean as the team’s test and reserve driver and they also presented the three drivers for the 2009 Renault Driver Development Programme. Davide Valsecchi, like we reported a while back, Charles Pic and Marco Sørensen.

They launched their new car in Cologne at January 15.

“Our target this year is to fight to win the first race for Toyota in Formula One.”, team principal Tadashi Yamashina said.

Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock will continue from last year and the backup driver will be Kamui Kobayashi.

The car, built for the new 2009 specifications which really tries its best to Formula 1 cars ugly, was the first car launched for the coming 2009 season. This will be the new office for Kimi Räikkönen and Felipe Massa.

(I won’t show the photo to the right in high resolution because of the absolutely hideously Photoshopped sponsor background. They have probably fired their art department to cut costs for 2009. — UPDATE After seeing the launch video I discovered that the background isn’t Photoshopped in. So it actually looks naturally crap, in some weird way. My apollogies to the Ferrari art department. I have to put the blame to the ones doing the actual presentation. ;) )

Below you can see some high resolution shots of the new car. While I still haven’t come to terms with the new sizes of the rear and front wing – it’s damn good to see a Formula 1 car on slicks again!
