Hamilton disqualified from the Australian Grand Prix
The safety car following the accident involving Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica caused a lot of confusion on the track. But the confusion was even greater afterwards where Jarno Trulli lost his podium position after passing Lewis Hamilton during the yellow flag. Hamilton first passed Trulli, who had went off the track, but then slowed down to let Trulli pass him. Trulli was handed a 25 second penalty, which was quite severe as the race ended behind the safety car with the whole field bunched together.
Jarno Trulli:
“I can’t say how disappointed I am to finish third but have the result questioned,” he said. “When the safety car came out towards the end of the race Lewis passed me but soon after he suddenly slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road. I thought he had a problem so I overtook him as there was nothing else I could do.”

But then earlier today the stewards decided to re-investigate the incident.
And the Stewards decision is now that Lewis Hamilton and McLaren have been disqualified. It appears that Hamilton in the hearing after the race told the Stewards that he had not been instructed by the team to let Trulli by. The problem is he had already told the media that McLaren had instructed him to let Trulli pass and furthermore the Stewards now have access to some pretty vital evidence; the radio communications.
At the FIA website it is now possible to listen to both the interview Lewis Hamilton gave to the media as well as the actual radio transmission between Lewis Hamilton and the team.
